Maths students rise to the challenge

Good luck to the 37 Lower and Upper Sixth A Level Mathematics students who are taking part in the annual UK Mathematics Trust Senior Maths Challenge today. Along with students across the country, they will be faced with a 90-minute non-calculator multiple-choice paper.
Maths teacher David Neumann says the challenge is ‘a fantastic opportunity to gain some additional experience in mathematical problem solving’. For anyone wishing to have a go for themselves, here’s a question from last year’s paper:

The positive integer n is between 1 and 20. Milly adds up all the integers from 1 to n inclusive. Billy adds up all the integers from n+1 to 20 inclusive. Their totals are the same. What is the value of n?
A 11
B 12
C 13
D 14
E 15
(Reminder: no calculator allowed!)
