BTEC Level 2 Award in Travel & Tourism


This course is suitable for students who don't qualifty for BTEC Level 3 (A Level equivalent) courses.

It provides an excellent background for students who may already be considering a career in Travel and Tourism or who are weighing up other training and employment opportunities.

The course is vocational, involving personal research, investigation into real life travel and tourism activities and educational visits. 

What goes well with this course?

This course can be combined with GCSE subjects and other BTEC Level 2 courses.


This qualification demonstrates that students can apply concepts and interpret practical situations.

A Merit or above will provide students with a strong grounding for further study at Reigate College. Many progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Travel & Tourism, or other A Level subjects.

Course Content

The course covers a wide range of Travel and Tourism topics and includes:

  • The UK Travel and Tourism Sector
  • UK Travel and Tourism Destinations
  • Factors affecting Worldwide Travel and Tourism
  • The Travel and Tourism Customer Experience

Educational Experiences

Course Specific Trips, Visits & Experiences

BTEC Level 2 Award in Travel & Tourism students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of course related experiences. In the last couple of years, these have included:

  • A visit to the Butlins Resort, Bognor Regis, to carry out customer service research.
  • A visit to Boxhill and Denbies wine estate and event venue to investigate the appeal as destinations.

In addition to course specific experiences, students also have the opportunity to get involved in the College’s:

Activities Programme and Guest Speaker Programme.


The BTEC Level 2 Award is a one-year, practical course, assessed by coursework and external assessment and graded Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*.

The exam board for the BTEC Level 2 Award in Travel & Tourism is Pearson BTEC.

Entry Requirements

Students need an average of a Grade 3 over their four best GCSE subjects at GCSE (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted on a Level 2 programme.

Students will enjoy this course if they:

  • have an enthusiastic approach to Travel and Tourism
  • are determined to succeed on the course
  • enjoy written and spoken communication
  • can plan their own learning and meet deadlines
  • enjoy problem solving and the use of information technology

Students will work regularly with other people, and will use numbers to present and interpret statistics.
