Claire Hassan, Student Mentoring Lead, said, “We offer relaxed but comprehensive training to help students get confident in their mentoring role. You’ll be part of the hugely supportive Wellbeing Team and you decide how much time you can give alongside your College work.”
Read what some of our student mentors past and present have to say:
“I felt good knowing that I was part of a group that was helping others. Meeting my mentee each week felt simply like going for a catch up with a friend, and we’ve stayed friends since I left College. It really improved my communication and empathy skills, and having an awareness of safeguarding has been helpful for my volunteering roles with two mental health charities.” Lilia, 2023 Leaver
“Being a mentor helped to build a real sense of community and forms some of my best memories of College. I really enjoyed helping students get used to College life as well as supporting activities like open events.” Bryony, 2023 Leaver
“I think the best part about being a mentor is the rewarding nature of the role. You get to meet new people, form friendships, and contribute more generally to making college a positive environment. It’s the feeling of knowing that you have improved someone’s day or week that gives you a sense of pride and motivates you to keep making a difference. Not only does it teach you to see life through different perspectives, but it develops your interpersonal skills, such as listening and communication, confidence and most importantly compassion.” Eva, current Student Mentor
“The thing I love the most about being a Student Mentor is being able to talk to new people. Mentoring a student, for example, gives a rewarding feeling of helping someone understand a topic that I love, and running a club helps me get to know a variety of different people.” Dario, current Student Mentor
