Which of your courses have you preferred and why?
My passion is Dance. I’ve loved learning to choreograph and have done a lot of it during my two years at College.
As well as doing the BTEC Level 3 in Dance, I’ve also done the Level 2 Community Leadership Course. This is an extra course you can do at College, which is especially useful if you’re considering going in to teaching. As part of the qualification I got to teach Dance at St. Mary’s School in Reigate and have helped our Head of Dance with auditioning new Lower Sixth students.
What are your specific interests in Dance?
I’m into Hip Hop and Commercial and am part of a dance group called IMD Legion. I’ve represented the UK in the USA at the Hip Hop International competition for two years running, competing against dancers from 47 other countries. I’ve also taken part in Britain’s got Talent.
How have you found the Dance course and Department?
I’ve loved the course and made some really close friends. It’s a really supportive environment, not a competitive one as when we started most of us came from different Dance specialisms so there’s a great opportunity to learn a lot from each other. I’ve really enjoyed exploring new styles of Dance especially taking part in external workshops, for example the one led by former student Jack Hinton and another with a representative from Bird College.
What are your plans for the future?
I have a place at UEL to study for a Degree in Dance. After that I want to work in some kind of dancing capacity and so will need to be with an agency. There are definitely opportunities out there for dancers – from touring with bands and singers, dance modelling and obviously performing in shows that have a dance element.
