Record results see A Level high grades soar

A record number of Reigate College students achieved ‘high grades’ (A* to B) in this summer’s A Level results. A phenomenal 62.2% achieved grades A* to B compared to the national average of 53%. The number of students achieving A*-C grades also increased to 86.7% (77% national average) and the overall A Level pass rate was 99.7%.

  • 99.7% pass rate at A Level
  • 86.75% of A Level grades were A*-C
  • 62.2% of A Level grades were A*-B
  • 28.44% of A Level grades were A*-A

These record breaking results have meant that nearly every single student will progress to their first choice university including Oxbridge and Russell Group and highly competitive courses such as Medicine and Law.

In addition to A Level results, high grades for BTEC Level 3s were exemplary this year, with 97.2% of students gaining high grades (Distinctions or Distinction *) for their BTEC Diplomas (two A Level equivalent) and 88.8% of students receiving high grades for their BTEC Subsidiary Diplomas (one A Level equivalent).

Principal, Nick Clark commented, “I’m truly delighted by the increase in high grades – it’s been a focal point for us this year and it is thanks to all of the tremendous hard work and commitment shown by both the students and the staff. I’m incredibly proud of all of them. This is an outstanding achievement and one that gets to the heart of what the College is about.

Whatever students’ GCSE results, the College provides an environment in which all can excel – not just the most academically gifted. Time and time again we’ve shown that students respond well to having a stepping stone between school and university or work. Being in a more adult environment surrounded by encouragement and support allows them to take responsibility for their own learning, much like they would at university.

We make every effort to ensure students are on the right tailor-made study programmes, which best suits their abilities, so they have the best chance to succeed at the highest level. This may include doing A Levels, BTECs or a combination of both.

Not only do our students receive the results they need to get them onto the most competitive courses at the most prestigious universities, they also outperform other categories of students once they get there – proving that Reigate College equips students with the skills and independence that sets them up for life.”
