Following their winning performance in this year’s Battle of the Bands competition, members of College band, Turtle Soup, have claimed their prize of a day recording their own music in a professional recording studio.
Upper Sixth students Joss Malcomson, Jamie Harris, and Matt Redfern together with former student Matthew James (now on the Tonmeister programme with Surrey University) spent a day in September at Miloco Studio, The Pool in Southwark. This iconic studio has played host to Florence + The Machine, Franz Ferdinand, Blur, and Mumford & Sons to name but a few.
The day began with the band choosing and setting up their equipment under the expert guidance of the Miloco technicians. They then had a chance to experiment with the control room’s legendary special effects as they did their first takes. After a quick break for lunch, in walked none other than Will Young, who’d been recording in the next door studio, asking if he stay to listen!
By the end of the day Turtle Soup had mixed and mastered three of their own tracks.
Reigate College Music teacher Dale Wills summed up the day: “The experience of recording in such an amazing space, and through some of the best equipment in the business gave the band an edge and excitement in their performance which they will carry with them for a long time.”
