Reigate College is a Sixth Form College offering initial teacher training to lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the opportunity to complete a Postgraduate Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) as part of the School Direct provision. Training is completed at the College with attendance at the university on day or block release.

Applicants can choose to train either via School Direct: Training (Tuition) or the School Direct: Salaried route, depending on the current offer by the College.
The School Direct: Training (Tuition) route is a postgraduate course funded by tuition fees paid by trainees (supported by Student Finance) who may be eligible to receive a bursary from the Teaching Agency (TA). Trainees are registered on an appropriate PGCE course through which they can obtain both QTS and an academic award. See School Direct Tuition (Training)

The School Direct: Salaried route is employment-based and requires the trainee to be employed by a school as an unqualified teacher whilst they train. Trainees receive 60 days training and can be required to teach up to 80% of a teachers’ timetable. As an employee of a school, trainees have the same rights and responsibilities as any other teacher at that school. This route is therefore aimed at high-quality graduates with three or more years’ worth of career experience. See School Direct Salaried
At present, Reigate College is in partnerships with University of Sussex and University of Brighton for the School Direct provision.
UK university degree (2:2 or above) or a recognized equivalent qualification
Grade C (4) above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics
All candidates offered a place on a teacher training course will be required to satisfactorily complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly known as a CRB check), including a check of all cautions and warnings as well as convictions before their place can be confirmed. The University will pay the cost of this check on your behalf.
To find your secondary teacher training course please use the Surrey Downs Partnership website and select current vacancies, you will then be directed to the Find Postgraduate Teacher Training Service on the gov.uk website, select ‘By university or other training provider’ and type in Surrey Downs Partnership, then select ‘Secondary’ and select the secondary subjects you want to teach.

On completion of your School Direct course with QTS, you will seek employment in the sector as an Early Career Teacher to complete your Induction Year. See ECT Induction Years
As you progress as a qualified teacher, opportunities to study your practice at Master’s level, will be available at many universities. This may be something you would want to consider.
Is School Direct the same as Teach First?
No.
Teach First trains graduates in selected challenging schools and you apply directly to Teach First. You apply for School Direct through UCAS Teacher Training.
