Photographers at Reigate College headed into half-term freshly inspired and energised after a visit from award-winning visual artist and alum Hollie Fernando (February 12).
Head of Art & Design Hannah Wiggins said, “Hollie spoke so eloquently and candidly about the highs – and the lows – of her career. She’s built a truly remarkable reputation as a contemporary artist alongside outstanding international commercial photography work.
“Students gained practical insights as Hollie shared stories about real-life shoots covering topics such as starting out; how to engage clients; film technology; and how to work with sitters. And we are completely bowled over by her offer of one-to-one feedback on our students’ work beyond her visit.”
The icing on the cake was a reunion with the College’s long-serving Photography Technician, Brian. Hollie communicated just what a huge personal impact Brian had on shaping her approach to being a curious, active photographer during her time here.
Hollie’s work was recently exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery as part of the Taylor Wessing Portrait Photography Prize, winning the Commission Prize.
