The MVD Careers Pathway has been run by Liz Sanders (Associate Director Pathways) for over 10 years. Liz has developed an excellent programme of support to assist students with gaining offers at the country’s most prestigious Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry Schools.

Who is the MVD Careers Pathway open to?

The MVD Careers Pathway is open to students:

  • Doing both Chemistry and Biology A Levels,
  • With an average GCSE score of above 7
  • Who are interested in studying Medicine, Veterinary Science or Dentistry at university

When does it start?

Students can elect to join the MVD (Medics, Vets and Dentists) Careers Pathway at the beginning of their Lower Sixth.

What form does the MVD Careers Pathway take?

Sessions are delivered via an additional timetabled weekly tutorial (on top of regular Aspire tutorials in the Lower Sixth), through which students benefit from a whole programme of support.

This includes:

  • Learning how to construct a reflective portfolio documenting their work experience,
  • Researching contemporary health related issues, debating major issues in medical ethics
  • Attending talks from practicing medical professionals.

What happens at the end of the Lower Sixth?

At the end of the Lower Sixth, based on their progress, MVD students then have the option to join the MVD Upper Sixth tutorial pathway to support them through the process of making MVD applications.

How successful is the MVD Careers Pathway?

13 students gained places for Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science in 2025, with 11 students securing offers in 2024, and 18 in 2023.
