Wednesday 17 January saw the first session of our inaugural Biotechnology Club enabling students to develop hands on experience of molecular cloning. In this first practical session, students learned how to extract and purify bacterial genomic DNA. Students then set up a PCR reaction to amplify their gene of interest ready for cloning in subsequent weeks!

Members of the Biology teaching team (all former research scientists) were impressed with how quickly the students acquired the basic skills in performing these advanced molecular techniques.
