Huge congratulations to ex-Reigate College student Lauren Day for winning ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at the 2023 Reigate and Banstead Business Awards. Lauren left the College in 2022 with A Levels in Product Design (3D Design) and Maths plus a BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Engineering, providing a firm base for her dream career in architecture. She then joined Reigate Architects in September 2022 and in just one year has impressed her colleagues with her enthusiastic and dedicated approach.
Reflecting on her win, Lauren says, “I had a truly incredible evening at the awards and want to say thank you to my work family at Reigate Architects for all their support since I joined. Thanks also to nTrust Systems for their generous sponsorship of the Apprentice of the Year award to recognise the contribution of apprentices to the workforce.”
Simon Walter, Founder of Reigate Architects says, “We nominated Lauren because she consistently goes ‘above and beyond’ to meet challenging and time-critical demands. At Reigate Architects, we feel it is important for local businesses to support and share their knowledge and to provide real ‘on-the-job’ experience that equips apprentices with the skills and training they need in a challenging job market.
“Lauren is a reliable, conscientious and approachable individual who has demonstrated technical proficiency, adaptability and genuine passion for her work. She’s a shining example of the benefits an apprentice can bring to a company, and, in Lauren’s case, to the future of architecture.”
Lauren is studying for a BA (Hons) Architectural Assistant degree (Level 6) at London South Bank University while working towards her RIBA Part 1 qualification.
