Merci, gracias and danke schoen to Nick Stene, Senior Global Insight Manager at Euromonitor International, for delivering an informative talk to around 90 students on the value of multi-lingual staff in the workplace.
Students found out that on average, linguists earn more than their counterparts in many sectors; that speaking more than one language can open doors to a promotion; and how a lack of language skills can sometimes act as a barrier, especially for management roles.
Béné Morell, Modern Foreign Languages teacher, said, “Staying open to learning new languages once you have a good standard of French, German or Spanish under your belt is hugely valuable. In fact, these can act as a springboard to learning new, and perhaps more challenging, languages at university.
“We hope this talk helped our students to revive their love of language as they plan for successful career paths.”
