Now in its third year, our Applying for Law live panel event (10 June) helped Lower Sixth students decide whether a career in Law might be right for them.
Kate Oake, Alumni Coordinator said, “It’s brilliant that our past students share their experiences so honestly and openly. It was great to welcome back 2025 leaver Elliot McLaggan who just two years ago was inspired by fellow panellist Antony Vundi at the same event. He’s now a Solicitor Apprentice at the same firm.”
Head of Law Greg Saunders-Griffin added, “We had a great mix of students – some already on our Law Pathway and some considering it for their Upper Sixth – and the feedback across both groups has been great.”
“It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, so it’s reassuring to hear from our alumni that it it’s ok to take the time to work out what you want and that there are a number of ways into a successful career.”
Audience questions included how AI is impacting the profession, with Elliot citing how his firm, Charles Russell Speechleys looks to – and invests in – its junior staff as innovators for new ways of working and bringing new value to clients. Discussions also highlighted the considerable perils of over-reliance on AI and the human skills that continue to be important.
After the main Q&A, students then had the chance to practise their networking skills and ask questions one-to-one or attend a workshop on preparing for the LNAT – an admissions test for the most selective universities.
A heartfelt thank you to all our panellists Antony Vundi (Charles Russell Speechleys LLP); Courtney Cummins (DMH Stallard LLP); Elliot McLaggan (Charles Russell Speechleys LLP); Francesca Mesure (incoming Bird & Bird LLP) and Georgia Rogers (GPE) who have also shared their story in our Alumni Gallery. Thanks also to all our staff from Careers, Law, Marketing, Estates and the Senior Management team who made the event happen.
For those who missed it, the presentation slides and a recording of the event are being uploaded to the College’s SharePoint site in the coming days.
