Debate Club goes head-to-head over AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) was under microscope in a Reigate College lunchtime debate this week (18 November). Teams for the Proposition (for) and Opposition (against) gathered to make opening speeches, arguments, rebuttals and closing statements in response to the motion ‘This house believes that the rise in AI will do more harm than good’.

The Opposition proved the ultimate winners, successfully convincing our panel of four senior College staff ‘Judges’ and winning the audience vote by a margin of one.

Debating Club lead Toby Anderson said, “It’s been great seeing the teams prepare for this live – and very human – event. They have thought carefully about a range of arguments for and against, learnt how to reference any claims and developed their ability to think on their feet. I’m already looking forward to our next live debate in the Spring term.”
