Last month saw Reigate College’s Intermediate students explore their options once they complete their Level 2 studies at a tailored Get Ahead Day.
The event combined tutor meetings; finding out more about Level 3 subjects taught at Reigate College; a workshop with Sue Taylor, Network Manager at the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (South) on applying for apprenticeships; plus the chance to meet with independent apprenticeship providers such as Gatwick Airport, Surrey Police, NHS, Unilever and The Army at a ‘Next Steps’ exhibition on site. The event also showcased a selection of local further education colleges and the level 3 programmes and apprenticeships they have on offer.
Stuart Wilcox, Director (Operations) said, “This was fantastic opportunity for our Intermediate students to continue planning for their progression beyond this year. Whilst the majority are looking to progress onto Level 3 study here, apprenticeships are a great option for those wanting to combine study with paid employment. It was great to show the students the range of apprenticeship options available to them beyond Reigate College.”
Student Fatima agreed, “I liked being able to talk to many different employers to understand the options available to me, as I am not attending university. I was surprised that there were so many new careers for which I can do an apprenticeship without having to do A-levels.”
