Living our community values

Finally, summer arrived and the sun shone brightly for the College’s annual Equality and Community Day.  At lunchtime, our green space saw College musicians play live for an audience of staff and students who also enjoyed a BBQ, garden games, henna tattooing and facepainting. Ten community organisations also joined us for the fun, giving out information and speaking about their services.

In dedicated tutor time, students engaged in a mix of quizzes, game-style activities and group discussions to raise awareness of diversity topics ranging from human rights to young carers. They also made personal pledges to support College and its local community.

Rob Walton-Kinghorn said, “As part of the day, we raised money for local charity Us in a Bus, who support people with profound learning disabilities and complex needs to connect meaningfully with others.  We all learnt a great deal from their live presentation.

“While we raise awareness of diversity, equality and inclusion throughout the year, having a whole day to bring everyone together is brilliant. It helps us build a shared understanding of the issues people still face in our society and strengthens our own sense of community at the College and beyond.”
