National Theatre’s script-writing competition

Congratulations to Upper Sixth student Abigail Field who has been shortlisted from nearly 500 entries in the National Theatre’s annual script-writing competition.

Abigail was previously at Oakwood School and is in the Upper Sixth studying English Literature and Film A Levels, together with a BTEC in Performing Arts.

Abigail explained, “I entered the New Views competition through the College’s Playwriting Club. I had to write a 30-minute play and it could be about pretty much anything I wanted. The first draft was submitted in March and then I received feedback from the playwright assigned by the National Theatre to the College. My involvement allowed me to try out techniques from different plays that I’d studied and seen in the theatre. I now feel much more confident in my views on the world and the importance of my point of view. I also generally feel more assured as a writer. I was really proud of the final draft of my play (Schrodinger’s Boys) that I submitted at Easter.”
