Winning beach hut design lands Annice work experience

Congratulations to Lower Sixth 3D Design student Annice for her winning beach hut prototype, which has secured her a week’s architectural work experience.

Head of 3D Design and Engineering Rebecca Degiorgio ran the competition as a ‘warm-up’ exercise before next year’s formally assessed coursework. She said, “We asked Jhonnatan, an architect with WS Planning & Architecture, to write a brief for our students to respond to.  We then ran it as a competition to win a week’s valuable work experience with Jhonnatan’s practice.

“The standard of work has been excellent, so I had a difficult job of whittling down 60 individual designs to a shortlist of 15.  Jhonnatan then had the even harder job of choosing a winner.”

Architect Jhonnatan Jaramillo said, “I was really impressed with the skill of the designs and the creativity of the ideas shown in the models. Our brief demanded consideration of a range of factors, including sustainability credentials, adaptation to both day and night-time usage, and cost-effectiveness.

“What gave Annice’s design an edge was the ability to respond to the brief whilst offering an attractive appearance to the beach hut with careful consideration to the use of space for different users whilst providing potential to adapt to a variety of environments.  We look forward to welcoming Annice to our practice this summer.”
