Classics students explore cultural careers

Lower Sixth Classics students went behind-the-scenes at Dorking Museum and Heritage Centre this week to learn about exhibition and display work, cataloguing, collections care and handling artefacts as part of a work experience visit.

Sarah Bell, Head of Classics, said, “A career in culture and heritage is an area that students are often interested in exploring but may not know how to find out more about. It’s great they had this hands-on opportunity within a museum that’s at the heart of its local community.”

Thanks to Kathy Atherton, Chairman of the museum, for hosting the morning.

Students commented:

“I really enjoyed the work experience; it was very insightful and seeing it first-hand helped me learn about all aspects and jobs available within the industry.”

“I enjoyed it very much and thought for a two-hour work experience it was quite thorough!”

“It showed me all the different aspects of museum work and I found this interesting as I didn’t realise there were so many parts to it.”
