Inspiring prospective Engineering students

Engineering - Lead speaker Christian O'Brien

On Wednesday 30th January Reigate College welcomed over 120 prospective students and their parents to an event for those applying to enrol onto the AQA Engineering Course in September 2019.

As well as being given a course outline from College Head of Engineering Nicky Robinson, guests heard a series of engaging talks from:

  • lead speaker and Engineer at Dandara Ltd, Christian O’Brien who gave a thorough overview of the different branches of Engineering and the range of career pathways available
  • former student Paul Newland, Graduate Engineer at Atkins, who inspired students with his passion for Maritime & Civil Engineering (Paul left Reigate College in 2011 with A Level Mathematics, Product Design and Physics and AS Level History and graduated from Plymouth University with a First Class Masters in Civil Engineering)
  • Roger Frampton, Systems Engineering Consultant, who gave an insight into automation engineering, growth areas for the future and tips for success.

Parents and students alike found the evening incredibly helpful, with comments such as:

“I enjoyed hearing about all the different branches of Engineering and it helped me understand what the course will actually involve” (Year 11 student)

“It was very good in giving a full view of both the course and a future career in Engineering” (parent)

“It was really helpful to hear from returning students who had studied at Reigate and gone on to a career in Engineering” (Year 11 student)

“It was a very interesting evening with a lot of food for thought as there are so many different avenues to Engineering” (parent)

Our thanks to everyone who was involved in putting on the event.
