Last night we welcomed around 50 Year 11 applicants plus parents and carers to our Medical Sciences event for would-be doctors, dentists and vets.
Kicking off with an overview of the support College students can expect as part of our specialist pathway, our visitors also took part in lab sessions tailored to their career interest and got the chance to quiz our alumni and student Q&A panel.
Liz Sanders, leader of our Medicine, Veterinary and Dental (MVD) Pathway said: “We have an incredible track-record in helping our students get offers to study their chosen discipline, and the planning starts early.
“Our applicants’ event aims to give a thorough – and candid – account of what it takes to apply for and then be a successful medical science student at university. While the route can seem daunting, our pathway is designed to support our students at every step along the way.”
Events like these wouldn’t be possible without an army of help from our staff and students past and present. So special thanks go to:
- Current MVD students assisting in the lab sessions: Abigail C, Danny G, Emma B, Georgia T, Hattie E, Leia C, Kashish P, Rebecca D and Rose P.
- Our Q&A panel featuring Adam Chatfield (Veterinary, Uni of Surrey), Carly Munn (Medicine, UCL), Hannah Craig (Medicine, UCL), Dr Hannah Parker BVetMed MRCVS (Portland Vets), Mukunth Kowsik (Medicine, Uni of Birmingham) and Rebecca Frampton (Dentistry, Uni of Sheffield) and Medical School offer holder Emily L.
- Our dedicated staff team: Liz Sanders, Alys Dreux (Head of Biology) and Dan Jackson (Chemistry and Applied Science teacher) for designing a brilliant hands-on experience; Sarah Walters (Deputy Principal) for chairing; Sean Boothe (Sound Technician) and the whole Marketing team.
