Students play detective as CSI comes to College campus

July 2 proved no ordinary day for 30 Public Services and Criminology students when a crime scene investigation simulation took over part of the College campus.

Nick Moynihan, Public Services teacher, explains, “This hands-on event gave students an opportunity to complete key components of crime scene investigation such as blood, DNA, fingerprint and bone analysis.

“Throughout the simulation, they won points for both critical thinking and accuracy in each of the challenges, working in teams to solve a case and work out how a fictitious victim died.

All the teams were named after famous detectives with Luther ultimately crowned ‘Best Crime Scene Investigators’.

The overwhelming student feedback was that it was “very engaging” and “thoroughly enjoyable”. Thanks to Nick and Head of Criminology Daniel Sharp for working with Thinkers in Education to deliver this fascinating and hugely educational experience.
