Reigate College’s programme of Applicants’ Events is aimed at students applying to study at the College from September 2022. The 2021/2022 series kicked off with an event aimed at female applicants applying to study STEM subjects at College (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

Reigate College is extremely proud of the high number of girls who are offered places to study STEM subjects at leading universities each year, on what are traditionally male-dominated courses. The Women in STEM Applicants’ event was aimed at female applicants interested in studying Physics, Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology at the College. The event highlighted why girls benefit from studying these subjects and also the support they get at College.

The event was hosted by Ellen Walkinshaw, Associate Director, Progression and included presentations by Simon King, Deputy Head of Maths, who talked about the new Women in STEM Programme launched recently at Reigate College. This new Programme aims to support current students through relevant lunchtime talks, trips and access to STEM events.

The evening also included talks by two external speakers from the STEM industry – Holly Tovey, Senior Statistician at the Institute of Cancer Research and Katherine Chapman, Senior Product Security Engineer, BAE Systems, who talked about their career histories and current roles.

The event was rounded off by Nicky Robinson, Joint Head Physics and Course Leader for Engineering at Reigate College. Nicky talked about her career pathway and what opportunities lie ahead for girls who go on to study STEM subjects both at College and beyond.

A special thank you goes to the current A Level students who took part in this event; Angelina Else, Mergi Aga, Catherine Hogg, Gemma Heinrich and Laura Grundy. They all spoke with such confidence and enthusiasm when sharing their individual College experiences.
