Congratulations to the cast and back-stage crew behind the College’s production of Antigone.
Project Supervisor Neil Hadley commented: “I would like to thank all the many people who have helped in this endeavour. It’s lovely to witness the enjoyment gained from everyone’s combined efforts.”
For those who aren’t familiar with the play, here’s a quick synopsis:
After Prince Polyneices and his brother Eteocles die in battle, the new King, Creon, forbids Polyneices a burial because he fought against Thebes, while Eteocles is honoured. Their sister Antigone, driven by familial loyalty and religious conviction, decides to bury her brother herself.
The play explores themes of civil disobedience, familial duty versus law, the limits of authority, pride, and the clash between reason and emotion. But when a human takes on the Gods, can anything end well?
