In March we celebrated strengths, challenged stereotypes and promoted inclusion for neurodivergent individuals as part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2026.
Our Learning Facilitators Katie Shannon and Bryony Maher, who are both autistic, led a practical workshop for autistic female students. The session, ‘Navigating the World as an Autistic Woman’, offered strategies for navigating the workplace, tips on self-care at College and reassurance about how to live life as your authentic self.
Deputy SENCO Rob Walton-Kinghorn said, “We know that autistic women often mask their traits more than men and can go a lot longer without a diagnosis and appropriate support. I’m so grateful to Katie and Bryony for sharing their knowledge and lived experience with our students through this workshop, as it helps to create a culture where they too can be open about their needs.”
Throughout the week, there were also open-access sensory and slime activities, staff support sessions, and a cake sale that raised around £200 for The Neurodivergence Project.
