Elizabeth line Chief Engineer signposts career options in rail infrastructure

Many thanks to returning speaker and transport engineering expert Chris Binns for delivering an informative talk to over 60 Engineering and Physics students (March 19), covering the different disciplines in the sector and the wide range of opportunities within the rail industry.

Among his many experiences, Chris worked as Chief Engineer on the giant infrastructure project that was the Elizabeth Line. Engineering Course Lead Nicky Robinson said, “As the Elizabeth Line technical authority, Chris oversaw many parts of the Crossrail project including the Rail Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health Systems, Architecture and Civil Engineering. We are so lucky to have someone like Chris, who has such excellent credentials, demystifying the breadth of careers that are out there.”

Chris is one of 274 engineers celebrated on Transport for London’s Engineering Icons Tube Map. The map was created in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering to showcase the contributions of individual engineers from history to the present day. Fittingly, Chris’ name can be found on Elizabeth Line at the ‘Custom House for ExCel’ station.
