Kacper successfully appointed as Disabilities Officer

Huge congratulations to Lower Sixth student Kacper Borkowski for his election to Disabilities Officer for Croydon West Constituency Labour Party.

Having joined the party in 2024, in January he took steps to get more involved. Kacper explains, “As a Politics student who’s keen to contribute to society, I contacted to the Secretary and asked what more I could do. She suggested starting with canvassing – talking to local people on their doorstep about the issues that matter most to them.

“I have cerebral palsy and can’t move around without my wheelchair, so I checked the accessibility of the planned route, found it looked ok and just went for it. Now I’m a regular fixture on the West Thornton rounds and I’ve only had one mishap with a rogue ditch, from which my colleagues quite literally helped me out!

“When the Disabilities Officer role came up, I had some great feedback that I might be a good fit, so I applied, made the shortlist and was successfully elected.”

The voluntary role will see Kacper developing and delivering plans to grow participation among disabled members in local party activities, championing representation and ultimately contributing to improved equality.  Kacper reflects, “Our world can feel quite an angry place at the moment, but that anger is not always well used and directed. I believe we need to work together to find solutions to improve the lives of disabled people, so that’s the approach I’ll be taking in my work.”

Not one to be bored, Kacper has also recently been appointed to the College’s Student Union where his clear energy, passion and ideas will be put to great use.

Kacper comments, “After College I aspire to a career in Law. Both roles will help me to build important engagement and advocacy skills while hopefully leaving a legacy of which I can feel proud.”
