Last night we welcomed around 130 students, parents and guardians to our Applying for Law event.
Designed to support decision-making before next week’s Lower Sixth Progression Day, the event blended a lively Q&A with informal networking and specialist career planning information.
A huge thanks to our incredible alumni panel – Adam Rawlinson, Amber Matheson, Kaj Scarsbrook, Lawrence Hiller-Wood and Mia Hardiman – who shared their experiences with honesty and good humour.
Liz Sanders, Associate Director of Pathways, said, “With Progression Day next Tuesday, the panel event really helped students get to grips with what a career in law looks like, what they need to do to get there and whether to join the Law Pathway in their Upper Sixth.”
“The informal networking session after the main event was also hugely valuable, not least because it gave students a chance to develop this important skill in a safe environment. And our workshop focusing on the Law National Aptitude Test gave tailored guidance for students who are thinking about applying to one of ten universities that use this test as part of their admissions process.”
And earlier in the day, Kaj, a Criminal Barrister, ran a hugely successful practical workshop to hone 40 students’ cross-examination skills based on a simplified version of one of his real-life murder cases. He commented, “The students asked intelligent questions and their performance was impressive. It was great see such engagement in the room and witness them grow in confidence.”
Thanks also to our dedicated staff team for all their hard work to make this special event happen including presenters Greg Saunders-Griffin (Head of Law); Kate Oake (Alumni Coordinator); Liz Sanders and Ellen Walkinshaw (Director, Progression & Skills) and those working behind-the-scenes: Mahmut Yildirim (Videographer), Sean Boothe (Sound Technician) and staff from our Careers, Law, IT & Estates teams.
