Reigate Politics students question the health of UK democracy

In front of a packed theatre at Reigate College on a cold Tuesday evening, four of our Upper Sixth Politics students warmed to the task of discussing the state of UK democracy. The students showcased their debating skills, subject knowledge, and passion for the subject, as part of an Applicants’ Event that allowed future students in year 11 to get a taste for A Level Politics. The evening was chaired by Nick de Souza, Head of Politics at Reigate College, and involved the audience with a lively discussion and regular voting activities on a host of issues ranging from questions about rights protection, to whether there is a participation crisis amongst young adults.

Commenting after the event, Nick de Souza said: “First and foremost, I am so proud of our current Upper Sixth students – to communicate so eloquently and with such clarity in front of an audience of 100 members is no easy thing.” He goes on to say: “These events are immensely helpful for prospective students looking to find out more about the Politics course, and they also serve to inform students and parents about the current events that Reigate students are covering.”

Special thanks to our wonderful Upper Sixth Politics students Hannah S, Euan W, Alis S and Ruby B for taking part, and for sharing their valuable insights into College life.
