Lower Sixth BTEC Business students have been working on a Community Marketing Challenge set in partnership with East Surrey Samaritans and Reigate-based Marketing agency Your Marketing Team.
The challenge invited students to work in self-selected teams of three or four to devise a four-week strategic marketing campaign aimed at increasing awareness of the vital work carried out by East Surrey Samaritans, while also helping to drive donations from both corporate sponsors and individual fundraisers.
The response to the challenge was outstanding. Huge congratulations to the winning team consisting of Habeeb Aroyeun, Soore Orungbamade and Finn Houghton, who demonstrated strong engagement with the brief and genuine enthusiasm for working with a real-life client on a meaningful cause.
Michelle Theophilus, Head of Vocational Business (BTEC) said, “Working with a real client has made the process more meaningful and motivating and I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to both East Surrey Samaritans and Your Marketing Team.”
“We really enjoyed the afternoon – the depth of thought and level of detail in each presentation was impressive,” said Laura Taylor from Your Marketing Team, and echoed by David Hartley, who added, “It was extremely hard to choose a winner.”
Soore said, “Taking part has definitely boosted our confidence and helped us see marketing as a real career option.”
As well as enriching students’ academic learning the project also strengthened the College’s links with the local community—showcasing how education, creativity and social purpose can come together to make a real difference.
