I chose to study Geography at university because I enjoyed the subject but had no idea what career path I wanted to follow. I loved being a student in Durham and got involved in the women’s Rugby and Rowing clubs as a way of meeting new people.
After graduating I did a few office temping jobs in London and it was through one assignment that I discovered the market research sector.
Thanks to my temping experience, I got an internship at Ipsos MORI, a company specialising in market research and went on to complete their graduate training programme.
I now work at Sky in the advertising team and use my research skills to understand clients’ needs and help shape their advertising strategies and programmes.
I’m based at Sky’s huge campus in Osterley (SW London), where I enjoy the amazing office environment and going to the on-site gym at lunchtime. I love the buzz of working for a big media company and the opportunities to progress and develop my career.
The work is varied, there’s a great mix of people and the culture at Sky is really supportive and inclusive.
College was a great stepping stone for me. I learnt important self motivation and time management skills which really set me up for being successful at university and building my career.
I’d advise students to be proactive, get involved and gain work experience – you never know where it might take you!
