Jamie

Since I was about 13, my dream job was to be able to listen and work on music all day. Through studying Music and Music Technology at College I made some great friendships that I am still in touch with today. Studying Music Technology gave me a great grounding in the fundamentals of the specialism while also developing my industry knowledge.

At 18, I moved to London and spent several years getting experience as a Runner and Assistant Engineer in some of London’s top recording studios, including State of the Ark, Metropolis, Strongroom and Domino Publishing’s Writing Room. I’ve also run events at prestigious London venues such as Dublin Castle, Camden and Hootenanny, Brixton.

Like many others in the business, my music career started in my bedroom, getting together with my mates from my first band, The Blue Pursuit. I play numerous instruments including bass, double bass, guitar, keyboards, clarinet and drums.

In my career to date, I’ve performed as a session musician for a range of artists, including session bass for Tom Grennan and touring Europe with Nilufer Yanya which took in venues such as the O2 Brixton Academy and Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

My main focus now is working as a record producer and songwriter for artists and bands performing Indie Pop. My recent clients include Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Lexie Carroll, Isaac Gracie and Will and the People. In 2024, I moved into a new space and set up a professional recording studio in Surrey which has been a real highlight. While really challenging, it’s been great for meeting like-minded people along the way. Another key personal highlight this year was being longlisted for the 2024 Music Producers Guild’s Writer-Producer award. For the future, my sights are set on winning a Grammy.

My advice for anyone starting out would be to take uncomfortable risks and to chat to ‘that person’ you don’t think you can talk to, because it will help you with your career. And it’s also really important to look after your mental health in the music business – take care of it and music will take care of you.
