How did you choose your combination of subjects?
I chose Reigate College because I wanted to do both Textiles and Musical Theatre and Reigate had an excellent reputation for both. I love the theatre and have been performing since I was very young. My interest in Fashion and Textiles was ignited when I joined a sewing club in Year 3. I felt choosing Business would be a good balance between the artsy subjects and could help me with running my own business in the future.
How have you found your courses?
I’ve absolutely loved Musical Theatre, and I’m so pleased I did the course. Musical Theatre has helped me build confidence in performing in front of others, plus it’s helped me improve my acting, singing, and dancing skills.
I made my ‘for-life’ friends while being on this two-year course and I’m so glad to have met them.
The Textiles course introduced me to many different techniques that you can use to produce unique and intricate pieces. I felt at times it can be a bit hard to balance Textiles with my other subjects since it’s very time consuming, but nevertheless, I still really enjoyed the course.
What extra-curricular things have you been involved with?
During my first year I was part of the orchestra and played the harp during the Christmas concert. I was also in the College musical Sister Act which is one of my favourite musicals, and it was great fun.
In my second year I performed in Oklahoma! playing the role of Aunt Eller, one of the principal roles. Oklahoma! is a legit musical which is not a genre of musical I tend enjoy as much as modern musicals, but I’m very glad I did it. It was amazing and I really loved the whole production process – from rehearsals to the dress rehearsal and final performances.
What are your future plans?
My plan after College is to go to university to study Costume Design and then take an MA in Musical Theatre. I want to be a Costume Designer but I’d love to also perform professionally.
