How and why did you decide which subjects to study?
I based it on what I most enjoyed at secondary school: I really enjoyed Geography GCSE and felt it would combine with English Literature as I could apply essay skills to both subjects. I chose BTEC Law because I wanted a mixture of BTEC and A Level subjects to get a balance between exams and coursework and to take some of the stress out of exams.
How did you find the move from school to College?
Exciting! I gained so much independence by taking control of my own studies and I‘ve met so many great people and gained amazing friendships. The College’s focus on community, such as the Freshers’ party and Community Afternoons, really helps ease the transition from school to College.
What have you enjoyed/are you enjoying most about your courses?
I’ve really enjoyed the coursework element of my subjects, for example in Geography you conduct an independent investigation on a topic of your choice, relating to the course. This was a great opportunity for me to choose something I particularly enjoyed and create an independent investigation which would count towards my final grade. I received so much support from teachers and gained confidence for my final exams.
How have you found the teaching and support staff (including Careers staff, Learning Support, and others if relevant)?
Support at Reigate College is amazing! Throughout my Geography coursework I received one-to-one feedback on how to improve, which helped me achieve my best. Our teachers also provided drop-in sessions to support us with the coursework to answer any questions we had. The Careers Department offer support relating to our futures; they assisted me through my UCAS applications and were able to answer any question I had relating to future plans and careers.
