What additional support have you received while at College?

I’m severely dyslexic, plus I also have Asperger’s so getting good additional support has been really important.

I’ve been fortunate to have benefited from the College’s excellent Learning Support Department, and got to use its Dragon speech recognition software, that turns your spoken words into text and executes voice commands, quickly and accurately.

What’s your favourite subject and why?

I like Applied Science. I know I want to go into Biomedical Research and I’m particularly interested in things like viruses, bacteria and genetics.

Tell us about your SATRO work placement

I heard about the placement via the College’s Careers Department, and Ellen, one of the Careers staff, did a great job helping me with the application.

I spent four weeks working at Surrey University, during the College summer holidays, under Susan Lanham-New, Head of Nutritional Sciences. During this time, I learnt how to analyse complicated data and turn it into graphs. I now understand the value of good presentation skills!

What are your plans for the future?

I’ve been offered an unconditional place at de Montfort University in Leicester to do Biomedicine. Ultimately I’d like to go into drug research as I want to help as many people as possible.
